4 Vlichos Beach Hydra Island Greece
This is undoubtedly one of the more popular beaches on Hydra for a number of reasons. It's relatively close to Hydra town, only 2km along the coast road or a quick 3min water taxi ride if you don't fancy the walk in the high season heat. There are also two great places eat overlooking the beach and a small refreshments shop.
The beach is a mix of sand and small stones that shelves gently into the sea so is very popluar with families and adults who don't like to plunge straight in.
Umbellas & SunbedsThere are umbrellas and sunbeds to hire (although you are not obliged to rent them) but if you do intend to spend the day, the beds are a lot more comfortable than the stones! Suggestion: arrive early, swim & sunbathe then at lunch time, leave your towels on the bed and they'll be safe until you return for your after lunch siesta. (The charge is for the whole day, so you don't want to have to pay again after lunch or worse, not be able to find a spot again!)
Coastline going westAt the back of the beach there is a fresh water tap where you can shower off the salt water but please remember that water is in short supply on Hydra so it's always appreciated if you can make sure the tap is turned off properly when you've finished.
When you arrive on a water taxi, you walk staight ahead for the main beach. But if you want more privacy, walk up the ramp to Marina's taverna and go straight through. Then you can reach the little rocky coves that line this part of the shore. Be careful not to swim out too far though because there are no protected swim areas along here.
