Greek Dancing in Hydra Island Greece

Whenever Greeks get together for a celebration, or just a few meeting socially over drinks and dinner at a taverna, if there is traditional music playing, sooner or later there will be Greek Dancing.

In Hydra, all school children have Greek Dancing lessons including the boys as well as the girls.

Out of season there are Greek dancing lessons that adults and visitors to the island can join, which are held at the Old High School at the top of Lignou Street.

For those who would like to know the steps of one of the most popular dances called the Syrtaki which is acompanied by the music Zorba The Greek, I have included two videos below that I feel teach the steps very well for the more complicated 'verse' parts and the third video which shows the steps in action at a party and includes the basic 'chorus' which most people can do without much trouble.

Enjoy practicing!
