The town of Hydra is where the main concentration of population is to be found. The town is built so that all the properties lining the natural amphitheater are focused on the harbour. This is where most of the population lives and works. The entire harbour front is lined with tourist shops, tavernas and cafés which is to be expected on an island that depends on visitors for its income.

The area called Kamini is a much larger village than people at first realise. Starting on the coast at the little Kamini Harbour (1km west of Hydra port) the village spreads inland up the valley widening out so that it covers the back of the hill that guards the west side of Hydra Port and up and across to the top road that leads to Vlichos.
