Lazaros Koundouriotis fought during the Greek War of Independence 1821 and is called "the Father of the Nation".

Architecturally, this is a superb example of a grand house in the true 1800's style on Hydra. When the last Koundouriotis decendent died, the building passed to a trust organisation who now administer it. They have done a fantastic job.

The building is laid out much as it would have been when it was a functioning home. Throughout there are exhibits appropriate to each room.

The curator, Mrs Anne-Maria Rabias, is very knowledgeable about the history of the building. She and her staff are always on hand to answer questions.
