1st March – The parent committee of the 2nd Primary school will be holding their annual carnival party at the Melina Mercouri Hall. Entertainment and buffet included. It will start at 17.30. Entrance fee: Children: 5 euros – adults: 6 euros. Super presents include: DVD system, Hi-Fi, electric hoover and a poly-mixer. There will also be many other small gifts to win. Lottery tickets cost 1 euro per ticket. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

The high school invites all to come and join them on the 1st March for a party at Omilos. Entrance is 10 euros which includes a free drink.

Starting the square in front of the Hydroussa Hotel at the back of the Cathedral, the parade will walk 'round the island, ending with a party in the town around 18:30 at the Douskos Taverna. Visitors welcome to join in the fun, bring your fancy dress costumes and cameras. See annual events for more details.

First Day of Lent (prior to Paska/Easter), always lands the day after carnival. Kathará Dheftéra (Clean Monday), church services start at about 7:00am and when they finish, special food is packed and taken for walks into the hills where families share their picnics and fly traditional kites.

Saturday 15 – The hunting committee of Hydra invite everyone to the Melina Mercouri Hall for the cutting of their New Year pita. This will be followed by a buffet and raffle. Super prizes include a Benelli centro carabina, a 32” TV and many more. Raffle tickets can be bought from members of the hunting committee. Starts 19.00

Greek Orthodox name day celebrations for Greeks called Evangelos or Evangelia

The parades starts from the schools, nursery, junior & high schools as well as the Merchant Seamans College at around 9am and converge on the Cathedral in the town for a huge service and laying of wreaths. Followed by national dancing along the harbour

The annual yacht race to start the season begins today with yachts of all shapes and sizes leaving Piraeus heading for Hydra. Depending on the wind, everyone starts arriving in Hydra's Harbour at about 19:30-20:00.
