On Good Friday approximately 20.00, the epitaphios of Ayios Yannis in Kamini is taken in to the sea at Kamini harbour. From 21.00-21.30 all the epitaphi from all the main churches around Hydra town are carried along the port and gather together before entering the Mitropolis (the main church under the clock tower).

The 1st May is a National holiday. The tradition is to ‘capture’ the day. Most of the locals go walking to collect a variety of wild flowers, then hand-make wreaths of flowers to hang on the front of their houses and shops. They believe it gives good will for the month.

21st May is a celebration for those persons who are named Kostandinos (or shortened version of) and Eleni. Most name days are celebrated in their own homes or in restaurants where eating, drinking and lots of dancing takes place! Happy Name Day
