Homemade Beef Burgers

This is a favourite with my children and is so easy to make. The people on the island make it with different herbs, so the recipe isn’t standard in my books. Trying every which way over the years getting the taste just right, I finally found a good recipe that’s simple and really delicious.

Ingredients:
1 kilo of minced meat
1 medium onion
1 clove of garlic
Fresh parsley
½ cup of olive oil
Salt and pepper
Breadcrumbs (1/2 of a packet)

Method:
Put the onion, clove of garlic and olive oil into a blender until completely smooth. Laying the minced meat on a tray, pour the blended mixture of onion, garlic and oil onto it. Chop a bunch of fresh parsley very finely and spread over the top. Add the breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. With your bare hands (this is the fun bit!), literally mush all the ingredients together. You need a good 5 minutes to knead the mixture making sure all the ingredients have blended with the minced meat. Taking a small amount in your hands, roll the mixture into a ball then squeeze between both palms to make it flat. Voila, you’ve made a beef burger!

Notes:
This recipe is for about 15-18 beef burgers. If you don’t need them all at once you can easily freeze the rest ready for next time. Or alternatively make only half of the ingredients.
If the mixture seems too sticky or sloppy, try adding a few more breadcrumbs.
The beef burgers are usually fried in oil or grilled which ever you prefer.
Served with fried potatoes and salad of your choice or put in a bread roll with lettuce, mayonnaise, cheese and tomato.
