Make sure you bring sensible footwear with you when you come to Hydra because there are NO VEHICLES (well, just two rubbish trucks that you wouldn't want to be in).

There are no mopeds, no cars and ONLY DONKEYS for hire if you don't want to walk.

Donkeys don't just carry visitors and their luggage, they're used in every activity of life on Hydra. Seasoned travellers to Hydra are more likely to carry their own bags to their accommodation.

But if it's your first visit, we think you would enjoy starting your holiday by hiring a donkey to carry your bags. Donkey ridesYou don’t need to find a donkey-man, one will find you!  Just get off the dolphin or ferry, move away from the crowd a bit, put your bags in a heap and look hopeful – you will find that competition between the donkey-men is so fierce that they tend to pick your bags up and start loading them before you realize what’s happening.

There are different donkeys to carry out different functions on the island. The ones with coloured blankets will the the 'tourist donkeys' and available to carry luggage to hotels or take you on ten minute trips round the town for a bit of sight-seeing.Delivering plants The ones without blankets are the working donkeys and you'll see them carrying an assortment of things from building material to supplies for the shops. To ask how much you can say Poss-o-khani but most of them understand “how much?” in any language.  If you're staying in a hotel or pension, follow the donkey.  The donkey man will know the quickest and easiest way to go.
