This fenced terrace catches the early morning sunrise but is in the shade by mid day. It is also one of the best places on Hydra to photograph the moon as it appears over the craggy, south-east mountain line behind the property, especially when it is a full moon.

Directions

 

From the harbour turn up Tombasis Street on the corner of the Alpha Bank. At the Amalour go straight between the hardware shop and Amalour. At the top of this narrow street follow the sharp right bend and then immediate left. After 20 meters turn left and walk passed the entrance to the football field, which will be on your right. At the corner of the football field, go straight up passing a well head on your left and the left side of the triangular area of pine trees with a children's playground. At the back of the playground, turn right and then follow the level road to the next junction where there is a refuse collection point. Turn left here, up a few steps, then take the right fork. From here on you just need to follow the twists and turns through this pretty residential area (about another 50 meters). When you get to the top you turn right and walk to the end of the wide concrete upper road, (countryside and ruins on your left, other properties on your right). You will find the Bouagia Complex on your right a the top end of this road where one of the hiking routes start. This is an easy-to-negotiate route by Hydra standards with lots of level stretches to intersperse the steps. There are only 97 steps and it will take an averagely fit person 10 minutes to walk.
