Taking the metro from AIA to Piraeus

The metro service in Athens is fantastic - very easy to use, clean and compared with other major cities in the world, one of the very safest even late at night.

From Athens International Airport you take Line 3 from Eleftherios Venizelos (the airport) and change to Line 1 at Monastiraki which goes straight through to Piraeus.

When you get to Monastiraki, make sure you follow the signs for Piraeus so you don't end up going the wrong way down the line.

There's a lot of walking to do so I strongly advise you to have luggage with wheels.

When you reach Piraeus, go straight ahead when you come through the platform barrier so you come out of the main entrance onto the main port road. Turn left to the side of the station and then cross the main road using the pedestrian bridge. This will put you on the correct/sea side of the road so you don't have to cross the rather terrifying junction roads further down.

You need to turn left when you cross the bridge and walk for about 10 minutes following the curve of the harbour until you get to Port Gate 8 or 9. You will pass a number of entrances on the way and eventually reach the bus terminus on the corner. Keep going as straight as you can, crossing the main road and then into the harbour. Go left once you're in the harbour and continue walking for about another 250m until you reach the Hellenic Seaways ticket office.
