As I am not an artist I have to rely upon the words of the many artists, who live and work on Hydra and variously say that this island really is an artists' paradise!
Inspirational, good light, texture, brilliance of colour, clarity, bold geometric shapes, sharp contrasts, dramatic landscapes, peace and quiet that's conducive to creative contemplation, are all phrases that I hear mentioned on a regular basis.
Great Summer Shows on Hydra
11-Aug-07 - This summer has seen some really good quality music shows on Hydra starting with the extraveganza for Miaoulia Week.
And Friday the 10th August 2007 was no exception.
Hosted on the veranda at the Museum and to a packed audience, the island was treated to the impressive guitar music of Notis Magroudis and Panayiotis Margaris with the beautiful voice of Anastasia Moutsatsou.
Multi-level messages from Stephen Schultz at the Verena Foundation
Stephen Schultz by Stephen Schultz19-Aug-07 - Stephen Schultz's exhibition LIMINAL NAVIGATION opened at the Verena Foundation last night.
There's an excellent article about the artist and his work written by Gorden Teskey on the Verena Foundation website. I'm not going to quote it here because it's a tad arty-farty (in other words knowledgeable and critically articulate) - instead I am going to go with my gut feel in this article - STEPHEN'S WORK IS GORGEOUS! Go and see the show immediately, you'll be missing a real treat if you don't.
Serious Competion for Epidaurus
Rachel Lloyd20-Jul-07 - The appeal of teenagers, once you get passed the stereotyped (but sometimes justified) complaints of their parents, is their energy, enthusiasm and ability to excel if they really want to do something enough. This thought was certainly confirmed for me last night when I enjoyed a delightful evening at the Hydrama Theatre in Vlychos.
Well done Eric!
14-Jul-07 - On the evening of Friday 13th, I went to the Verena Foundation in Kamini anxious to see what Eric had developed in his film on ‘Faces of Hydra’. Eric apologising for being late, finally started the show. An invited band named "Hotel" sang some songs and the audience started to relax. The moment the music stopped, the lights in the 3 windows of the foundation started to flicker……silence.
Percussion GroupiesI have never witnessed such silence from the Greeks in all my years of living here.
