Research into ancestors who came from Hydra
My great-great-grandfather, Athanasius, emigrated to Melbourne, Australia from his native Hydra in the late 1860's. He apparently was born around 1830 (give or take) on Hydra and his parents names were possibly Emmanuel (or Emmuel) and Zoe. Upon emigrating to Australia, Athanasius seems to have altered the spelling of his surname. In Australia the family always went by the surname Jostlear (sometimes Johnson), however I understand this can't be a Greek surname as there is no 'J' in the Greek alphabet.
I am trying to find out further information on the family and would love to be able to find out what the original surname was and details of the family on Hydra. In an attempt to try and progress my research I was wondering if you might know of someone on Hydra who could assist with research? Two of Athanasius granddaughters are still alive here in Australia. They're quite old and I would love to be able to find out any information that I can to pass onto them.
My hope is that there could very well be relatives of the family still on Hydra that may recollect stories of an uncle Athansius who went to Australia... or possibly may recognize the combination of names (Emmanuel, Zoe and a child Athanasius) on their family tree. 1-Sep-07 - Marriage of Vangelis and Katerina
The wedding of Vangelis Voulgaris and Katerina Maragou took place on Saturday 1st September 2007 at Agios Jannis Church (in Hydra Town).
Katerina and Vangelis celebrated their marriage at the Enalion Restaurant in Vlychos with about 300 guests.
The party continued well into the early hours and finaly broke up when the sun came up. We wish them every happiness together.
A beautiful baby boy
Petroula who has worked at the hairdressing salon ‘Muses’ for many years, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on 9th July. Weighing 2.900g, is now safely back in Hydra. Petroula is a glowing mum and Dimitris an overwhelmed dad. Wishing them all a healthy and happy future together.

Greek Dollhouse Furniture
Hi! I often look at your site as I have a good friend from Hydra.
I have a rather unusual question. I am making a dolls house that is Andalusian in style but I am trying to reconvert it into a Greek house. I am trying to find typical Greek dollhouse furniture (the size of the typical English doll houses for collectors), especially the type of sofa that can be seen
in the mansions on Hydra. Do you know if it's possible to find anything like that? I have searched all over the Internet, even in Greek toyshop sites but my Greek is very limited and I haven't had any success.
