Hydra is dominated by the Greek Orthodox Church and the year is punctuated by religious festivals which inspite of their serious nature, add an undeniably exciting atmosphere to island life on a regular basis with many colourful parades after church services. Visitors are more than Miaoulis FireworksMiaoulis Fireworkswelcome to watch and to a certain degree take part in some of the traditions particularly with carnival and Paska (Orthodox Easter).

During the high season, from April to October, the Municipality of Hydra organises cultural exhibitions in the Melina Mercouri Exhibition Hall and is responsible for the Miaoulis festival in June.,

The Director of the Museum and Archives of Hydra in addition to the fixed exhibits on show, arranges many guest exhibits and cultural events including music evenings held on the roof terrace overlooking the harbour.

Throughout the year lots of live music shows and Start of CarnivalStart of Carnivalspecial evenings such as Full Moon Parties are held by the various bars and restaurants. And with the opening of the Verena Foundation at Kamini plus a number of galleries, there are now even more venues available for events to take place.
