With such a concentration of places in town it's almost a relief to escape the hustle and bustle of the port to reach this
tranquil taverna 'Ta Gefyria' for a traditional Greek lunch or dinner. In fact, with so many of the places to eat on Hydra aiming for up-market international paletes, Gefyria is one of the few Greek tavernas on Hydra still cooking authentic dishes. Well worth the visit!
Giorgos Tsigkos and his friendly staff offer delicious traditional dishes of the day to tempt. Try Stuffed Aubergine, Chicken in Lemon Sauce, Marinaded Fish or Spiced Meat Stuffed with Egg. And of course the menu has all the traditional Greek taverna favourites. Our local prices will be a nice surprise for you too!
With excellent WiFi you are invited to bring your laptop with you if you want to work in our atmospheric surroundings on that book you've been meaning to write or simply to catch up with your email. You are welcome to sit inside with the air-conditioning or outside in the shade of our awning.
You can be assured welcome as valued guests and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Leave the port at the Alpha Bank corner. At the Amalour Bar walk down the left fork down a straight narrow lane, passing Antonis' hardware shop on your left. After about 50 meters follow the lane round a right-angle turn, then immediately left onto Gikas Kolouros Street. Now walk for about 100 meters along this broad pine edged road. You will pass the Phaedra Hotel on your right. Keep going straight. You will find us on your right just before the small bridge that the taverna is named for. (Gefyria means bridge.)
