Overlooking the pretty harbour and tiny coves of Vlychos, you will find Marina's Taverna one of the most idylic and locally popular seaside tavernas in Hydra Island, Greece.
Marina's Taverna is run by Marina and Jorgos and is a really authentic experience for those wanting to taste real homecooked Greek food and traditional dishes.
If fish or seafood are not your favourites, you can try the dishes of the day with traditional seasonal vegetables and salads and of course taverna staples such as roasted aubergines with tomato and feta fava, cheese tsaganaki, vegetable stew, tsatziki and mezes complimented by chilled homemade wine from the barrel or ouzo over ice.
Marina's Taverna is a perfect destination to choose if you are out for a walk or hike. It's a great place to stop off at for an early evening sunset drink to break your walk and of course you could stay for dinner too!
Or if you aren't feeling that energetic, you can take a beach boat or water taxi from Hydra port to the little harbour that Marina's Taverna overlooks.
During the summer you will often find groups of artists sketching the scenery seranaded by the cicades and birds chirping in the shady pine trees.
Marina's Taverna is traditionally where many Hydriot familes send Clean Monday the day that starts the period of Lent before Pascha (Greek Easter) and the day after Carnival Sunday. The cliffs overlooking Vlychos harbour are a great kite flying spot which is a traditional activity after lunch on Clean Monday. If you want to join in with the fun, which is guaranteed to include Greek music and Greek dancing, then you will need to book nearly a year in advance.
As a location for events, Marina's Taverna offers an authentic traditional Greek atmosphere for your wedding reception, baptism or party. They have a good sound system with excellent speakers but you will need to organise your own DJ. The local group A Capella are well known to Marina so she can also help you to arrange live music too.
