This characterful home is no ordinary holiday let on Hydra. Its quirky layout offers plenty of space for up to eight guests to spread out. Three bedrooms to sleep six are in the main house and across the large sunny terrace there's a self-contained studio for two extended family members. The owners various collections of books, paintings, hats and boxes are wonderfully intriguing conversation topics. More or less every room opens to a terrace and there's a garden with fruit trees and scented shrubs to enjoy. Overlooking the picturesque harbour of Kamini it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'a 360 degree view' which is utterly stunning. Originally the site of a windmill, it's the lowest one in Kamini and is an easy walk from the coast road or Kamini Beach ... Full Description
Kaminia Mylos is immediately above the sleepy harbour of Kamini. You can see its stone walls above the Kodylenia Taverna. It's not a difficult climb but there are enough steps to make it impractical for anyone with walking difficulties. There are a number of good tavernas and restaurants within a leisurely five minute walk. And the closest beach is a short stroll on the other side of the harbour. You can walk the coast road to Hydra town or call a sea taxi to collect you from Kamini Harbour.
The architecture of Kaminia Mylos is unique. It was carefully planned and designed by the Greek architect Nikitas Hadjimichalis to integrate perfectly with its surroundings and to offer an incredible view over the island and sea. The property used to be an ancient windmill fort overlooking the quiet Kamini fishing port and has been completely restored into a charming private home fully equipped with all modern amenities and comforts.
The Kaminia Mylos can accommodate eight guests in total comfort. It consists of the main house and a guest studio within its walled garden and terraces.
In the main house, there is a spacious open plan living area on the top floor including a sitting (fireplace for cosy winter stays) and dining areas as well as a fully equipped kitchen. To the east and west sides there are terraces so you can choose sunshine or shade depending on the time of day and your mood. Stairs down to the lower ground floor open to a snug/library/piano room where there are three bedrooms. Two of them have king size beds and one has two single beds. On this floor, there is a large bathroom, as well as a second smaller bathroom with shower just outside off one of the lower terraces.
Across the entrance terrace, directly below the original walls of what's left of the windmill, there is an independent guest studio. Here you will find an open plan studio with a king size bed, desk/work area and fully equipped kitchen. The studio has air conditioning, music system and video screen. Every window offers a unique view of the sea and village. To the end of the studio there is a large bathroom with a bath. Just outside the entrance door, there's a small terrace which is a great place to take your morning coffee watching the comings and goings of fishing boats in the little harbour below.
The house offers multiple terraces that give a 360° view over the village, the hills of Hydra and the sea, as well as beautiful sunset views over the island of Dhokos. There are also garden terraces with shady trees and perfumed shrubs to enjoy.
Have a wonderful stay on Hydra, regards Kelsey.
