Outstanding location with unrivalled views of the entrance to Hydra Harbour, across the Saronic Gulf to the mainland and all the way to Spetses, but without too many of the Hydra steps to climb. This house enjoys the views from multiple terraces that extend around the house so you can also see the mountains behind the town. And the spectacular view compliments an equally dramatic interior and plenty of space. This house will delight you.
Summary: 2 double bedrooms (both with double beds) 1 triple bedroom (1 double bed and 1 single bed). All bedrooms fully air-conditioned, small but well fitted and equipped kitchen, TV & music in the living room, WiFi Internet access. Pets are not accepted. Parents must accept responsibility for the safety of children as the low walls surrounding the terrace are too tempting to climb on and there is a very long drop. Sleeps 7 persons, minimum of 7 nights. The terrace is well supplied with good quality furniture.
This is a typical example of a 'cascade' house which you will find in Hydra. Built on 4 levels, it hugs the hillside and has both internal and external stairs.
The lower floor consists of just the triple bedroom at the bottom of the internal stairs. This room has been hewn out of the hill side with lots of exposed rock. The room has sea facing windows down its length. At the far end of the room there is a double bed with a single bed next to the door. The shower room is 10 steps up the stairs to the middle floor.
The internal living space of North House is on the middle floor. It is on the right as you come up the internal stairs. The large room takes your breath away when you first enter: it is very dramatic with huge sea facing windows and almost an entire wall of the dark stone that makes up the hills surrounding Hydra.
You'll find a music system and TV as well as board games and books to use.
This bedroom is almost independent from the rest of the house. It can either be accessed from the upper street door onto the terrace and then into the room which is effectively a separate building, or you come up the main internal staircase of the house, passing the kitchen on the top floor, then out onto the terrace. So as this room is so 'separate' from the other part of the house, it is ideal for guests who want a little 'independence' from the rest of the group.
There is a large double bed, wooden ceiling, lots of cupboard and drawer space and spectacular views.
Holding a function or getting Married on Hydra?
North House, the accommodation and the terrace, are included as part of the TOPS Exclusive Hydra Weddings service. For further information please click the link below.
Please note that while the terrace and church are available for weddings/functions they must be rented with the house for a minimum of 7 nights.
This property has been very well maintained and has all the character, charm and idiosyncrasies of a Greek island house with none of the inconveniences often associated with staying in old Hydra island properties. There is a private chapel, owned by the family, that is accessed from the terrace. Church services are not held there and you won't be disturbed by bells!
Location: The most straight-forward approach to the North House is from the coast road. You walk out of Hydra town, heading to Mandraki. Just as you round the corner below the Miaoulis Statue you turn right, along a slope and then up approximately 30 steps to reach the lower door to North House.
