To Spiti Angelon is the much-loved home of artist Andreas Horstmann and his wife Corinne. Their charming house is available as a self-catering holiday rental for a couple seeking an artistically inspired setting with lots of comfort and convenience. The house is tucked away on the east side of the amphitheatre overlooking Hydra Harbour offering complete privacy and those all-important sunset views. There is a creative, happy and romantic atmosphere and this house could be a delightful honeymoon destination where you could make wonderful memories.
(Please note that since filming, the master bedroom has been modified to close in Andreas artwork storage area as you will see from the photo further below.)
To Spiti Angelon (the house of the angel) is not the biggest house on Hydra but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in comfort and facilities. It is a 'real home' and so is 'geared up' for convenient home living with everything you might want during your stay as a guest and friend.
From the street, a short flight of steps brings you to the terrace of Spiti Angelon. This wonderful sea facing terrace is shaded so you can enjoy lunch without getting sunstroke. Overlooking the harbour to the front and the attractive upper garden behind with Andreas' expertly crafted bar joining the two areas, makes the outside space at Spiti Angelon a great place to enjoy both during the day and in the evening. It's a deliciously private and romantic location filled with lots of interesting & amusing artistic touches that give the whole place such a personality.
You'll find an outdoor shower in the garden that's nice and close to the reclining sunbeds so you can quickly cool off without going inside when you are working hard on your suntan. And if you want a bit of activity without being too energetic, you'll find a dart board which is fun. There are two umbrellas available so you can adjust how much sun you get in the garden as you prefer.
The attention to detail and comfort continues inside with the sea-facing living room. All three windows are fitted with semi-transparent screens so you can adjust the light into the room without completely blocking out the spectacular views. There's a dining table for those times during the early Spring or late Autumn when it might be more comfortable to eat in, which is also an inspirational place to work if you are coming to stay on Hydra to be creative. The sofa bed can be made up for flexibility of sleeping arrangements (a third person or child over the age of 7, subject to discussion). The short flight of steps connecting the living room with the kitchen have been fitted with movement sensors that switch on when it gets dark.
The fully equipped kitchen with oven, dishwasher and larder fridge/freezer as well as the shower room, with washing machine, are on the half landing between the living room and bedroom. The kitchen window opens to the garden and so it is easier to pass things out through the window than have to carry them down the stairs through to the terrace! The shower room has a larger than normal, by Hydra standards, shower area and so is comfortable for taller people to use.
A short second set of steps from the kitchen lead to the lofty bedroom. Again, there is a motion detector which lights the stairs when it's dark.
This is the home of an artist and you will find yourself surrounded by lots of his interesting and excellent work. The upper floor is a split level room with the bedroom to the front and Andreas' storage area at the back. When you see the view from the bedroom windows you will understand why Andreas finds the place so inspiring! From the comfortable, large double bed you can also be inspired. Some of Andreas' work is for sale, so if something catches your eye, you can always discuss it with him so you can take home your own original piece as a memory, which will help to make room for more.
Getting To Spiti Angelon
From the east side of Hydra harbour, you will find this delightful Hydra house to rent about halfway up the side of the amphitheatre. There are two ways to reach it, one is the more scenic route up the zig-zag steps between the naval college and museum, or the second takes the less picturesque, but equally less strenuous route from the Alpha Bank corner. So you can come up to the house via route two but still enjoy the scenery of route one when you go down to enjoy the fun of Hydra harbour and town!
As with all private house rentals on Hydra, Andreas and Corinne will make arrangements for you to be met when you arrive in Hydra harbour and shown to the house to familiarise you and be on call if you need help. And arrangements can also be made to have a mule available to carry your luggage. (Please note that the cost of mule luggage transfer is not included in the price of the house rental and will have to be paid to the muleteer in cash on arrival. The price depends upon the amount of luggage but works out at about €15 per mule.)
Please don't forget to mention what time you will be arriving as soon as you know.
