The Kodylenia Taverna enjoys the most outstanding waterfront locations in Kamini.
Its slightly raised setting, on the corner of Kamini Harbour, offers a divine, constantly changing view.
There's no place better to enjoy watching 'real life' as it truly is in Hydra with the comings and goings of the fleet of little wooden fishing boats, people arriving and departing on foot or by sea taxi.
Come and join us at the Kodylenia for lunch, dinner or a sundowner.
At the Kodylenia we cook all of your favourite traditional Greek dishes from freshly chopped Horiatiki and homemade Tsatziki and Fava served with crusty bread from the local baker to Kokonisto and slow roasted lamb. In season we serve freshly caught fish, often straight off the boats that pull into the harbour below, as well as Kalamari and Octopodi.
From our serving cabinet in the kitchen you are invited in to choose from the dishes of the day which might be Mousaka or Lemon Chicken or Pistachio or our homemade, juicy Bifstekia.
And with your lunch or dinner you can sample red or white wine from our barrels, or if you prefer, chilled beers or soft drinks. We also stock a reasonable range of spirits and mixers.
At the Kodylenia Taverna we really like music and have one of the best systems in Hydra. We use our huge range of CD's to create the right atmosphere depending on the time of day or night, what mood our guests are in and what the occasion is. We especially like creating a climate of mental well-being in the evening for you to enjoy the spectacular sunsets.
We also have a very good free WiFi connection at the Kodylenia so you will be able to upload all the wonderful photos you take immediately to show your friends back home where you are and what a wonderful time you are having!
The Kodylenia is a traditional family run taverna and we keep it looking and feeling as much as it would have been 50 years ago so it has that wonderful authentic feel.
But we have also added facilities to ensure that you are comfortable when you dine with us.
Our awnings can be adjusted throughout the day so that you don't roast in the afternoon sun and we have ceiling fans to ensure that it doesn't get too 'stuffy'. It goes without saying, that our bathroom facilities are modern and kept scrupulously clean. Early and late in the season, we have rolling transparent blinds that we can enclose the space with to shut out draughts without stopping your enjoyment of the view.
Some of our diners stay for a while, so we also have cushion pads making our traditional taverna chairs are as comfortable as they are beautiful to look at!
Kodylenia's Taverna is the perfect location for a special events such as wedding receptions when you want a traditional atmosphere in a stunning location with the splendid flavours of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. We can seat a maximum of 120 people for celebrations and events such as weddings (even the ceremony as well as the reception) birthdays, christenings and conference hospitality.
Kamini Harbour is so picturesque that it's a favourite location for amateur and professional photographers. But it's a working harbour with local wooden boats, seabirds and fishermen coming and going so there's always something interesting to watch and photograph. One of the special delights of being at the Kodylenia Taverna is that you get to see little snippets of real life in this beautiful place. Dimitris' video below is just one of the impromptu moments you might enjoy during an evening drink. Costas is winching his boat out of the water for the winter (filmed October 2015).
Kodylenia's Taverna is open from mid March to the end of October.
From Hydra Harbour, walk the level, well maintained coast road to Kamini Harbour. It's just under a 1k stroll about a 15 minute walk for most people.
Alternatively you can take a sea taxi from Hydra Port to Kamini Harbour. This will cost you €10 for up to 8 passengers. If you are not sure what time you want to return, we will be happy to phone for a sea taxi to collect you when you are ready to leave.
