Bougainvilleas add vibrant colour to the streets and gardens all around Hydra Island. The dominant colour is the original (wild) pink, but you'll also find plenty of deep purple, white and orange. Most on Hydra are deciduous and they flower predominatenly from May until October.
Its high salt tolerance makes it a natural choice for color in coastal regions. Its long arching thorny branches bear heart-shaped leaves and masses of papery bracts which follow a 4-6 week cycle leaving drifts of petals in street corners.
