CoVid Tests on Hydra

There are 2 places on Hydra Island where you can get your CoVid PCR tests for your return trip at the end of your holiday.

Koulouros Hospital

Visit the hospital (privately funded) on the first day of your holiday to book your return tests. (You can't pre-book by email) Go up the steps and ring the doorbell. A nurse will come to take the  names of all the people in your group that need testing and book a date and time for you to return.

Days: Monday - Friday

Times: 09:00 - 14:00

Cost: €70 (Full PCR 72hr test)

Also do 24hr & 48hr tests

Tel: +(30) 22980 53150 & 53151

Therapia Medical Testing Centre

Therapeia Medical Center on Hydra for private CoVid PCR tests

The Therapeia Medical Centre on Hydra Island is a private blood-testing service. You can email in advance to book. Please note that they aren't particularly good at replying and I've noticed that many seem to have to queue outside and wait anyway.

Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Subject to change)

Times: 07:00 - 14:00

Cost: €80 - €200 (Full PCR 72hr test)

My advice to everyone is to get tested at the hospital as a first choice. They are open everyday of the week and the nurses will help to make arrangements for those who need tests done over the weekend. The price at the hospital is guaranteed to be the same. (You will pay €70 cash at the hospital, you will be given a receipt for €10 to cover the services of the hospital and you'll get a receipt for the €60 balance by SMS from the test centre on Poros with your results.)

Testing Available at the Hospital

For islanders or visitors, at the hospital you can get:

  • Molecular PCR test for Covid-19, taken within 72 hrs before travel
  • Antigen (rapid) test taken within 48 hrs before travel
  • Medical certificate of a Covid-19 infection, issued thirty (30) days after the positive test result and it is valid for six months
  • Self-test taken up to 24 hrs before boarding (the result must be entered on the platform self-testing.gov.gr).

If You Get Covid Symptoms While You're on Hydra

Advice for Islanders or Visitors:

If you, or a member of your family or one of the group you are travelling with, gets a high temperature, sore throat and/or a cough or feels overwhelmingly fatigued, immediately:

  • Self-isolate
  • Phone the hospital to report and get advice (+30 22980 53150 & 53151)
  • Make sure all members of your family/group wear masks at all times and avoid contact with others (to avoid spreading it further)
  • As much as possible, disinfect all surfaces, door knobs, etc., use sanitizers and wash hands regularly
  • Ask the house manager, hotel staff or a family friend to obtain self-tests for everyone in your immediate group/family and test them all. (Both the Gavalas & Rafalias Pharmacies sell self-tests (Approx. €5 each.)
  • Report all results to the hospital.
  • Anyone with a positive test, MUST stay in self-isolation as far away from the rest of the group/family as possible.
  • Those who have negative results can go out for essentials but must wear masks at all times, avoid social contact and generally be aware that they are quite likely, due to previous close contact, to be incubating the virus themselves or could pass it on to others.
  • Continue to self-test all members of your group/family at least every 4 days for at least a period of 14 days until everyone in the group has a negative test.
  • If you are due to travel but are Covid Positive, you will be able to speak to the hospital for the protocol to follow.
  • If you only have mild symptoms you will simply be asked to self-isolate and it is unlikely that a nurse will be sent to you.
  • If your symptoms worsen, call the hospital to report shortness of breath or excessively high temperature for advice. If necessary, the hospital will escalate treatment and if required, evacuation off the island to a mainland hospital.
