Spilia (meaning Cave) is the closest point to Hydra Town and harbour, where you can sunbathe and swim from the rocks and platforms below the Spilia Beach Cafe/Bar, the Sunset Restaurant or the Hydronetta Bar.

To reach them you walk out of the main harbour on the coastal road heading west towards Kamini.

You drop down off the road and walk down the steps through the Spilia Cafe to reach the first part which is the best place to catch the morning sun for an early swim. If you carry on along up the coast road and then fork right going through the Sunset Restaurant, there is a gap in the front wall between the cannons where you can reach steps down to the rocks and platforms below the restaurant. Or you walk all the way through the Sunset restaurant and then down the steps to the Hydronetta Bar. There are steps from the Hydronetta Terrace down to the bathing platform which is the best place to catch the last of the sun at the end of the day.

The routes to the rocks and platforms are public rights of way and not private so you are not obliged to use the facilities of the overlooking businesses. But of course it is very convenient having them there for refreshments, etc.

To get into the water you dive or jump from the rocks or there are iron steps available for the more cautious.

Because the area drops off immediately into deep water, I have described this bathing area as suitable for 'Adults' as families with young children might be safer and more relaxed on a beach that shelve gently into shallow water.

The sun rises on the area below the Spilia Cafe, moves round to the area below the Sunset and finally goes down on the platforms below the Hydronetta, so you can follow the sun round if you like to sunbathe all day!

Refreshments are available from the Spilia Beach Cafe/Bar, the Sunset Restaurant or the Hydronetta. You can, of course, bring your own refreshments and are not obliged to use the local services.

Toilet Facilities: At the neighbouring cafe and restaurant if you have bought drinks or lunch there.
