Traditional, detached family property for sale with 3 bedrooms. Hydra real estate located in the residential area of Four Corners, Kamini on the lane heading over the hill then down towards Avlaki Bay. This house for sale is in livable condition but would be an ideal house to sympathetically renovate as a holiday or residential home on Hydra Island Greece.
From the street, the front door opens into a good-sized hall. The ground floor double bedroom is on the right (east side of the house). To the left, you enter the snug sitting room and through to the dining room. The kitchen and exit to the courtyard are off the dining room. The bathroom is across the courtyard in a separate building to the west side of the building.
Two doors at the back of the entrance hall open to a large storage room and stairwell.
The ground floor double bedroom is a good size and has plenty of space for a double bed and large wardrobe and plenty of room to move around. There is one large window facing south.
As you will see from the photos below, the sitting room is snug but there is plenty of space for comfortable furniture. There is one window facing the south street.
The dining room and kitchen were added as an extension to the original house, circa 1950. The door between the sitting room and dining room, set in the original 80 cm thick exterior wall, was origianlly the back door. Part of the flooring in the dining room is made of the original terracotta brick parquet (under the current plastic flooring) and has been extended with the artisan floor tiles seen throughout the downstairs.
The courtyard is a good size and partially covered with a fixed area of corrugated steel which is allowed for in the building plans and verification documents. Therefore it would be possible to get permission to replace the existing cover with a more attractive pergola.
The bathroom is a very large, self-contained room that not only has the full complement of bathroom facilities but is also plumbed for a washing machine, so it doubles as a utility room.
The top floor of this house for sale opens straight from the top of the stairs into a large double bedroom. One window faces east and so catches the morning sunrise. The 2nd window faces south. There are double doors to the south facing Juliet Balcony.
All the floors upstairs are of wide wooden planks that are in excellent condition. The ceiling is of traditional beaded wood.
The top floor single bedroom is off the (west) end of the double bedroom. It is ideal as a small child's bedroom or could be used as a dressing room. (Alternatively, with planning permission, it might be possible to convert into an ensuite bathroom.)
Dionysus House for sale is in a residential area with a house opposite. However, none of the opposite house windows look directly across into the windows of Dionysus, so you do have privacy. The East views are across the village looking towards the Aghia Matrona Monastery perched on the top of the amphetheatre hills that cradle the back of Hydra Town.
Looking West from the balcony, you see the Kamini to Vlychos Valley.
"I adore being asked to advertise this type of Hydra house for sale! I can't help but consider possibilities as I am setting the advert page up. This property for sale is easily livable as it is, which gives incoming owners time to 'live with' the house to get a good feel for how they like to use it, where the sun rises and sets which will dictate which rooms are used when etc. As the roof is newly replaced (2014) everything under it is completely safe and weather-proof. Personally, I would be inclined to convert the outside bathroom into the kitchen and out of season dining room. So I'd move the downstairs bathroom into what is now the kitchen. The utilitarian corrugated cover between the main building and the existing bathroom is crying out to be replaced with something more attractive. The flat roof of the existing bathroom would be an ideal place to put oblong planters with trailing plants draping down the two walls into the courtyard (with an automatic watering system) to 'soften' the atmosphere of the courtyard. I'd probably use the existing dining room as a living room that could double as a bedroom with a good sofa bed as needed. Upstairs, I'd consider converting the single bedroom into an ensuite shower room (although this would take some serious thought because there's currently no obvious plumbing route). Without a doubt, I would have the place rewired and at the same time, I'd take the DEH (national electricity supplier) as well as OTE (phone & internet supplier) to task because 50% of the cables festooning the house are redundant. The 50% that are required have been lazily put up with no aesthetic consideration (it's obvious that they didn't have a tall enough ladder). Basically, a decent mechanic or architect would insist that external wires are correctly hidden as much as possible and any redundant cables are removed. But you have to ask for this!"
Regards, Kelsey (all suggestions are personal opinion and would all require an incoming buyer to obtain planning permission).
