Hydra Island - Ermioni, Greece

Day Trips To Ermioni

Ermioni is a popular day trip destination with local residents as well as visitors. This small seaside village has a range of shops and suppliers that can't be found on Hydra. The beaches around Ermioni are sandy and there are some interesting walks to be had as well as some pretty tavernas and restaurants, especially in the old harbour. The Christos Passenger Ferry goes daily between Hydra and Ermioni and moors up in the 'new' harbour off the same jetty as the Hellenic Hydrofoils.

Ermioni is a peninsula, you walk through the town from the 'new' harbour to reach the pretty old harbour.

Market Day

Throughout the year, Thursdays are Market Days next to the new harbour in Ermioni. The market pops up for the day with stalls selling a range of local produce including fruit & vegetables, nuts & sundried fruit, fish, plants and inexpensive clothing & household goods. It's a fun way to shop and is very popular with Hydriots, so if you want to travel to Ermioni on a Thursday, especially during the summer when it's busier, you really need to arrive 30 minutes before the departure time to ensure a place on the Christos. The market starts at 07:00 and is finished by 13:00 so you can shop in the morning, then have lunch locally before returning to Hydra on the last boat. (Just make sure you remember to buy your return ticket at the start of the day!)

Drive & Park for Hydra Island Greece

The service offered by the Christos Passenger Ferry is particularly good for visitors who prefer to drive themselves from the airport (or across Europe), or even take a taxi because the Christos has regular DAILY crossings between Ermioni and Hydra. Hellenic Seaways don't have this timetable. So whatever day you can rely on being able to get across the water during daylight hours on the 'Christos'.
