Yiannis Tsarouchis

Date: Sun 14 June - 30 Sept 2020

Art project 1629

in collaboration with the gallery "Anti" present in "Isalos" cafe on Hydra Island, 5 selected silk screen prints by the famous Greek Painter, Yiannis Tsarouchis.
The selection of works has been made by film director and artist, Nikos Zappas.
The exhibition starts on Sunday 14 June and will run until the end of September 2020.

Yacht Race

Date: Fri - Sun 19 - 21 June 2020

The 47th annual meeting of the Greek Revolution - Hydra 2020 Yacht Races. Between Faliro and Hydra, distance 36 nm. (Organisers: Panhellenic Offshore Sailing Club)

The races, which were postponed in March due to the CoVid-19 crisis have been re-scheduled for June at the request of the Municipality of Hydra with hospitality by the Hydraikos Nautical Club.

The approved Health Protocol of EATH / EIO will apply. Participants can find out more at info@horc.gr.

Kostis Velonis @ Deste

Dates: 21 June - 31 October 2020

This year's Deste summer exhibition at the Slaughterhouse, presents the work of Greek sculptor Kostis Velonis.

 

Inspired by the collection at the National Historical Museum of Athens, Velonis will show ten masks of the '21 Revolutionaries.

 

Due to the CoVid-19 crisis, the planned Jeff Koons exhibition has been postponed until June 2021.

Miaoulia Festival

Date: Fri - Sun 26 - 28 June 2020

Due to the restrictions of the CoVid-19 crisis, the full program of events originally planned under the auspices of the Municipality of Hydra has been reduced for 2020. The abbreviated program in June will not include the ever-popular fireworks and re-enactment of the sinking of the Ottoman flagship. Instead, the fireworks display will move to the 29th August so it is incorporated in the Kountouriotis Festival when it's hoped that more visitors will be on the island.

Assumption Day

Date: Saturday, 15 August 2020

Assumption Day (Dormition of the Virgin Mary) is a Greek Orthodox Religious observation, which because it is of such significant importance to the Greeks, is also a National Bank Holiday allowing them to travel to be with family at this important occasion. This is a joyful celebration because it commemorates Mary's reunion with Jesus in heaven. On Hydra, the congregation of the island's main churches fast and celebrate mass for the week leading up to the 15th as well as observing mass after. The main focus of the week centres on the Monastery Church in the centre of Hydra Harbour which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Sofianou Charity Gala

Date: Monday 17 August 2020

11th Charity Concert in favour of the Kouloureio Hospital of Hydra to be held in the Courtyard of the Hydra Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.


At this year's concert, we have invited 30-old Russian violinist Sergei Dogadin who won the 1th Prize at the International Tchaikovsky International Contest.

Kountouriotis Festival

Date: 29 August 2020

Due to the restrictions of the CoVid-19 crisis, the full program of events originally planned under the auspices of the Municipality of Hydra has been reduced for 2020. For this year the Koundouriotis festival will also incorporate the fireworks and re-enactment of the sinking of the Ottoman flagship normally associated with the Miaoulia Festival, which will be on the 29th August.

Rebetiko Festival (2-5 October 2020)

Date: Saturday, 3 October 2020 Time: From 20:30 till late Location: Xeri Elia (Douskos) Taverna Ticket Price: Free Admission (Pay for your dinner & donations on the night appreciated.)

The Rebetiko Conference of Hydra as well as the regular rebetiko music evening organized by Ed Emery, SOAS Rebetiko BAND and the Institute of Rebetology will come to Hydra and present the Rebetiko music evening, which is the main event of the conference,  that is open to everyone. Admission is free but you will need to book a table for dinner at the Xeri Elia Taverna. Please contact Stavros Douskos asap to reserve a table early as this is a very popular event of music, singing and dancing!

Yacht Race

Date: Fri - Sun 23 - 25 October 2020

Organised by the Greek Yachting Association, the October regatta closes the summer season. Participating yachts race from Piraeus and depending upon the weather, start coming into Hydra Harbour on Friday night. There's a hospitality event for the yachtsmen followed by an award ceremony before the yachts leave on Sunday morning for the next leg of the race.

Ochi Day

Date: Wednesday, 28 October 2020 Time: From 10:00 till 12:00 Location: Hydra Harbour

Ochi Day is a Greek National Holiday celebrating the Anniversary of the 'NO'. It is celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world to commemorate the rejection by Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas (in power from August 4, 1936, until January 29, 1941) of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on October 28, 1940, during World War II. On Hydra, there are church services and a parade along Hydra Harbour with all the children and students of Hydra taking part.

Hydra's Patron Saint's Day

Date: Saturday, 14 November 2020 Time: Procession from 10:30 till 12:00 Location: Ag. Konstandinos Church to Hydra Harbour

The celebration of Hydra's Patron Saint, Aghios Konstandinos, starts on the 13th. On the 14th the Doxology is sung in the subsequently formed 'Litaneftiki' procession which leaves the Church of Aghios Konstandinos at 10:30 and makes its way down the winding road from Kiaffa through the pine trees to Kala Pigadi and then down to the harbour following Andreas Miaoulia Street. Eventually the procession finishes with a blessing outside the port entrance to the Cathedral.

SwimRun Hydra

Date: 20-22 November 2020


Team Swimming & Running sports event hosted on Hydra for the first time in 2018 with great success. A maximum of 50 pairs taking part in various locations around the island.
A SwimRun is a multiple-stage competition which involves a pair of athletes running and swimming tied together with a rope, over a cross-country race course or loop-course that involves at least 2 transitions (3 transitions in the case of Hydra and a total of 14,7km) between the swim (3,7k) and run (11k) stages of the race. Athletes may use special swimming equipment like wetsuits, paddles or pull buoys, except for floating aids (not provided by the organiser). They can also wear shoes during the running legs. However, each piece of equipment has to be carried throughout the race. The team of 2 must complete the race tied together with the rope which the organiser will provide.
