Welcome to Cactus Villa one of the prettiest traditional houses to rent in Kamini Village. This comfortable holiday house is very private and perfect as a base for a couple to spend a peaceful and relaxing time unwinding. It's also a truly romantic place for newlyweds. And Cactus Villa can also accommodate a third person.
From the attractive walled courtyard, the house is entered on the ground floor into the kitchen. Here you will find a full sized oven/hob and a larder fridge/freezer. There are plenty of cooking utensils and more than enough crockery, etc., to prepare a meal so you can dine at home.
The top of the stairs from the kitchen open to a spacious, light and airy sitting room.
To one end, there is a single bed with a curtain to draw across for privacy if a third person wants to stay in the house. This also makes sleeping arrangements more flexible for a couple of friends.
The sitting room is fitted with air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans.
The views from the windows are of the surrounding village and up to the mountains (you can just see Profitis Ilias Monastery on the top of the opposite mountain).
The shower room is off the sitting room on the way to the Master Bedroom.
The Master Bedroom is fitted with a good quality comfortable queen-size double bed and has plenty of wardrobe & drawer space to unpack easily. As with the sitting room, the bedroom has both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan.
The windows (which have built in fly screens, for all windows in the house) overlook the courtyard and a door opens to the top of the external stairs down into the very private, large courtyard.
The Cactus Villa courtyard is a delightful space to enjoy during the day or night. Even though enclosed by walls, so very private, the views across the rooftops of Kamini, up to the pine-clad mountains under clear blue sky are marvellous. And from West side of the courtyard, you can look over the wall and all the way down the valley to Vlychos. A perfect place to enjoy the colours of Hydra's sunsets.
In spite of having been rebuilt in 2004, the house has a vintage and authentic feel because most of the original and unusual features were retained. So you will enjoy the coolness of the arched alcoves that open to the courtyard for siestas or quiet time reading a book and of course for dining al fresco. One arch is incorporated in the kitchen as a breakfast/dining area. And another alcove, under the external stairs, has been converted into a WC/shower room.
Cactus Villa in Kamini Village, close to the area known as Four Corners, will give you a real experience of what it is like to live on Hydra. This part of Kamini is an inland residential area and the surrounding houses are mainly lived in by local Hydriots with some part & full time expats.
There are two nearby supermarkets for provisions that are happy to deliver to the house so you don't have to carry shopping.
And if you don't want the bright lights of Hydra Town, there are five excellent places to dine out just a little further along the road towards Kamini Harbour. (Pirofani Restaurant, Kodylenia Taverna, Christina's Taverna, Pefkaki Taverna and the Castello Restaurant on Kamini beach.
Cactus Villa is almost equidistant between Kamini & Hydra harbours, but probably (in terms of steps) closer to Kamini Harbour. The closest swimming can be found off the bathing rocks below the coast road from Kamini Beach. It takes an averagely fit person 10 to 15 minutes to walk from Hydra port and 10 minutes or less from Kamini Port.
When you arrive:
As with all private holiday house rentals, you will need to be met when you first arrive on Hydra so you can be shown to your accommodation. Cactus Villa will have arranged for someone to meet you and will have organised a mule to carry your luggage. So it is vital that you inform the owner of the time you will arrive to ensure you are properly greeted.
Please note that the cost of a mule is not included in the rental price. A mule carries up to 4 pieces of luggage (2 suitcases & 2 pieces of hand luggage, 1 mule, 1 way approximately €20) and the muleteer is paid in cash when loaded.
